Pine Library Steps #1
We’ve recently acquired three pine library steps, originally sourced from the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth. The largest of the three, this one has three treads and a shaped handhold in the top. It would have been used in one of the many storage rooms within the library. It has taken on a very attractive, well-used patina. Solid and stable, it has all manner of uses now, both practical and decorative. c.1910s

The National Library of Wales was constructed from 1911 to 1915 on Penglais Hill, overlooking the university town of Aberystwyth. It is the largest library in Wales and holds over 6.5 million printed works. Interestingly, during WWII, it was used to store many thousands of nationally and internationally important artworks and manuscripts, including the Magna Carta and works by da Vinci, Shakespeare, Rembrandt, Rubens and many letters from kings and queens.
