Cornish Windsor Stick Chair

1,450.00

A very good 18th century stick back Windsor chair in elm and ash with traces of original green paint. Decoratively turned front legs, simple rear legs, all united by tapered H stretcher; solid elm shaped slab seat with a wonderful colour and patina; ring turned arm supports and simple hand drawn spindles. Originally the chair would have had ‘cleft’ supports to the front of the arms. These are no longer present, though the arms are perfectly solid regardless. It is interesting to note that a very similar chair in Cotton’s ‘The English Regional Chair’, has only one of these clefts remaining. This is a rare and very attractive example. Cornwall, c.1780s.
